Free check for fibroids

Participants will also be given an option to be part of an international study for the conservative treatment of fibroids so that surgery can be avoided.

In honour of Nelson Mandela’s 67 minutes for Charity on 18 July 2018, Umhlanga gynaecologist Dr Kobus Coetsee, is offering free pelvic scans for anyone who suffers from painful and/or heavy periods that could be due to fibroids.

What are Fibroids?
Fibroids are non-cancerous tumours/growths that develop inside the wall of the uterus. Most uterine fibroids have no symptoms. However, some fibroids do cause problems depending on their size and position within the uterus.

These symptoms can include pelvic pain, heavy bleeding including clots as well as pressure on the bladder and other pelvic organs. Fibroids can also be a cause of infertility. Fibroids are diagnosed by a pelvic examination and/or an ultrasound.

You will also be given an option to be part of an international study for the conservative treatment of fibroids so that surgery can be avoided.
