THE South African Weather Service has issued a weather warning for a cold front, accompanied with strong gusty winds. The front is scheduled to hit Durban in the late afternoon, early evening on Tuesday, 3 July, with a 30 per cent chance of rainfall.
“The public and small stock farmers are advised of possible localised flooding, windy conditions and disruptive snowfall over the western and southern parts of South Africa,” the service said in a statement.

And while the weather service is warning about the cold snap the SPCA is worried about pets, often left vulnerable when extreme temperatures hit.
Marketing manager of Durban & Coast SPCA, Tanya Fleischer has encouraged pet owners to consider the following during the chilly spell.
- Keep your animals indoors where it’s nice and warm.
- Make sure they have plenty of clean water.
- A little extra of their good food and a nice warm bed and/or blanket to snuggle in.
- If you can’t keep your pet inside, make sure they have waterproof kennels (raised off the ground slightly) and warm blankets.
- Do not leave puppies or kittens outside.

Windy weather can be expected over much of the coast reaching 35 km/h. The south-western interior of KwaZulu-Natal by this afternoon is expected to receive light snowfall.
