Durban North resident robbed at gunpoint

The balaclava-clad suspects, armed with firearms, held up the family at gunpoint before assaulting one of the victims and robbing them of a number of valuables.

A DURBAN North homeowner was left with a gash wound in his head after he was assaulted on Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed a gang of five men stormed the Monteith Place property at around 1.55pm.

“The balaclava-clad suspects who were armed with firearms held up the family, as well as a domestic worker and her children who were home at the time. They hit the resident on the head and grabbed laptops, cell phones, keys, a PlayStation console and a safe before fleeing the scene. The resident sustained a gash wound in his head,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios.

He said the robbers forced the victims into an office in the house, covered them with a blanket and ordered them not to look at the faces. According to Mathios the gang arrived at the property in a Hyundai.

This follows a home invasion in Glenashley on Friday last week where six armed men reportedly derailed the Lynn Avenue property’s gate before smashing through the home’s front door.

The suspects confined the domestic worker, who was at the premises at the time, into a room while the they ransacked the house, making off with cell phones, a flatscreen television, and the CCTV recording system, Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen said at the time.
