LISTEN: Queanne hits the right notes

The 18-year-old who studies music at Wits University is hoping to make her dreams a reality when she travels to the USA in July.

DURBAN North resident Queanne Southwood has always had a very clear picture of her future, and it involves singing. The 18-year-old who studies music at Wits University is hoping to make her dreams a reality when she travels to the USA in July. The former Our Lady of Fatima learner will be in the states auditioning for labels such as Atlantic Records, Disney Studios, Tyler Perry Studios, and Nickelodeon to name a few.

Southwood said while she is nervous, she is excited about the chance to live her dream.

“I’m incredibly blessed to have been given an opportunity like this and I hope to show off my talent. I was scouted by Kim Myers alongside a few other musicians from around the country for the the Arts Convention which kicks off in Orlando, Florida. This is one of the biggest moments of my life. I haven’t booked my flight back yet because I don’t know what’s going to happen but I’m really excited about this trip and the chance to make my big break,” she said.

The local resident she she draws her strength from her family, friends and fans.

“I wouldn’t be anywhere without my family and my friends. They have always been behind me 100 per cent and they’ve never let me give up on my dream. I also draw strength from my fans on my social media platforms. They come up with suggestions on what songs to perform and have been constructive with their criticism,” she said.
