Elderly uMhlanga man fights off armed suspect

The elderly man alleges that the suspect was armed with a screw driver.

A SUSPECT has been arrested after he allegedly tried to rob an elderly man on Hilken Drive earlier today. The man in his 30s was apprehended by an Upper Umhlanga Security Trust (UUST) officer.

” I was patroling when I spotted an elderly man chasing the suspect. The suspect had a stick in his hand and the resident had a chain. According to the resident the suspect forced entry into his yard, where a fight ensued leading to the suspect stabbing the resident on his arm,” said UUST patrol officer, Sandile Msebenzi.

Durban North SAPS was called to the scene. Durban North SAPS spokesperson Captain Raymond Deokaran said, “The suspect is now in police custody. The homeowner is being treated for his injuries. A case of attempted robbery has been opened.”

The suspect will appear in court soon.
