Concours d’ Elegance debuts in Durban

Among the cars to be featured, is a timeless Mercedes Benz 190SL; a Jaguar E-Type, a classic 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Tourer and a 1957 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud masterpiece.

THE regional leg of Concours d’ Elegance will make its debut in August. Motoring enthusiasts can expect to be taken on a whimsical journey as these timeless classics go head to head in a competition of the finest in classic vintage motoring.

The event, being the first of its kind in Durban, boasts a gathering of 200 of the most elegant collector’s cars, all competing for the title – Best of Show.

Organiser John Aritho said they’ve collaborated with the Durban Country Club, adding that the classic automobiles will undergo a rigorous judging process highlighting their historic accuracy, mechanical merit and their style.

“Durban is known as the motoring capital of South Africa and we are delighted to bring to this exclusive gathering to the city. It oozes elegance, class, charm and sophistication in every way,” said Aritho.

Co-organiser Avish Maharaj said the event is scheduled to kick off for one day only on Sunday, August 12.
Concours d’ Elegance Durban will also be honouring Durban’s elderly by donating to Tafta (The Association for the Aged).

“These elders are also our timeless classics and we need to extend our gratitude to them for leaving behind a wonderful legacy. We want to make a meaningful contribution to ensure that they live their best life through their golden years,” added Maharaj.

Tafta’s Divisional Manager: Income Development, Marketing and Public Relations, Gail Samuels said the organisation was honoured to be associated with this premium event as a beneficiary.

“The legacy of our 60th anniversary will always be remembered as part of a launch of a highly recognised event on Durban’s social calendar. We are immensely grateful that a percentage of proceeds from this event will go towards needy pensioner’s fund, in support of vulnerable elders in our care,” said Samuels.
