Cat rescued in eMdoti with fish hook in its mouth

Without assistance the cat would have been unable to eat, and ultimately would have starved to death.

A POTENTIALLY lethal situation has turned into a happy ending for cat rescued in eMdloti on Friday.

A good Samaritan, known only as Clinton saw the distressed feline near a block of flats in the area and noticed the cat had some fishing line hanging out of his mouth.

The incident comes as the world commemorated World Ocean’s Day – which aims to educate people on the effects littering has on the environment, and most specifically the ocean.

With the help of the owner from Umdloti Launderette the cat was rushed to the Umhlanga Veterinary Clinic, where it was determined a six centimetre hook had pierced through it’s tongue, said Tracey Hartley, founder of the Feral Cat Rescue Trust.

“If no-one had noticed then he would have starved to death as he certainly would not have been able to eat,” she said.

A post has been shared on Facebook in the hopes of determining if the car belonged to anyone.

Although the cat came from the street Hartley said he was “completely tame and very sweet”.

A post has been shared on Facebook in an effort to determine if the cat belongs to anyone. His rescuer however, Clinton said he was keen to adopt the feline should nobody come forward.

According to Hartley, its is surprisingly rare to find cats caught on fish hooks.

“It is usually the dogs and sea birds,” she said.

The animal activist has appealed to local fisherman to ensure that they dispose of their hooks properly before leaving the beach.
