Durban road closures, Zuma back in court

Motorists are warned to take note of road closures and high traffic volumes.

THE City is pulling out all the stops to ensure safety prevails tomorrow when former president Jacob Zuma appears at the Durban High Court.

Zuma will on Friday appear in court over 16 charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.

In a statement the city said, “Special traffic management plans have been put in place to ensure motorists are not inconvenienced by activities taking place.”

The disruptions to traffic start tonight with a motorcade planned to take place in the CBD between 5pm to 7pm and a night vigil held by the Interfaith Leadership at the Albert Park from 6pm until 8am on Friday morning, 8 June.

Thousands of people are also expected to participate in a planned march on Friday, 8 June.

  • The march will start at King Dinizulu Park at 7.30am, proceeding east upon Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street.
  • The marchers will then turn right into Dr Yusuf Dadoo and proceed south towards the bay.
  • They will turn left at Margaret Mncadi and finish off at the grassy area on the bay-side of Margaret Mncadi, outside the Durban High Court.
  • Margaret Mncadi (Victoria Embankment) will be closed off to all traffic, from 8am after peak period, between Joseph Nduli (Russell Street) and Joe Slovo (Field Street), till 1pm.
  • Both East and West Bound carriageways of Margaret Mncadi will be closed.
  • Traffic will be diverted away from the High Court precinct.

Avoid Margaret Mncadi (Victoria Embankment), Joseph Nduli (Russell Street), Joe Slovo (Field Street), as they will be closed from 8am on Friday, 8 June until midday.
