This Sunday, 3 June will be the celebration of 15 years of existence of the popular fair.

OVER a decade ago antique enthusiasts Sandy and Buddy Day, aimed at starting an Antique Fair that would include their hobby and also help with their charity fundraising: That journey turned out to be the start of ‘The Antique and Collectable Fair’ that is held on the first Sunday of every alternate month at the popular La Lucia Mall.

This Sunday, 3 June will be the celebration of 15 years of existence. This social gathering brings together antique lovers from all walks of life to enjoy browsing through a vast collection of beautiful items from the past, and find interesting items to add to their collections.

Antique collecting is the assembling of items of aesthetic, historical, and often monetary value from earlier eras. Initially, the term antique was only associated to pre-classical and classical cultures of the ancient world, but with time it is now applied to old artifacts of all cultures.

According to law and tradition an antique is usually defined as an object that is over a hundred years old.

However according to some experts, ‘age isn’t everything’. There are tonnes of old junk which do not make the cut to be antiques. Quality, condition, and historical background are some of the most important factors, but age is definitely not the end all, be all.

Organiser of the fair Sandy Day said: “Our theme for this event is An Elegant Affair. Special prizes will be awarded to the traders and their collective displays.”

Day who has been a collector for many years has even turned her home into an antique museum where she hosts other collectors, mostly beginners, to teach them about the unique art that is antique collecting.
The Antique and Collectable Fair will be at La Lucia Mall (Lower Ground Floor) on Sunday, 3 June from 9am to 3pm.
