China Mall robbers still on the run

The suspects tried to pull the shop owner into their vehicle but he managed to flee.

GREENWOOD Park police said they are doing all they can to make sure the suspects who robbed a business at China Mall are brought to book. The four suspects robbed a shop in the mall on Inanda Road on Sunday, 27 May.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu, the owner was organising his staff’s wages when the suspects stormed in on him.

“It was around 4pm and the shop owner was counting money to pay his staff when he was approached by four suspects who threatened to shoot him if he did not follow their instructions,”said Mthembu.

He added: “They took an undisclosed amount of cash. After that they tried to pull the foreign national complainant into their vehicle but he managed to flee from them.”

Mthembu has urged community members with any information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects to come forward.

He concluded by warning business owners to make sure that they lock up especially when dealing with money.

“Business owners must lock themselves inside their businesses when they are counting the cash. Alternatively they can use electronic funds transfer (EFT) to pay their staff. Anyone with the information on these criminals can call us on 031 5716512/3/4 or our crime stop 0860010111,” concluded Mthembu.
