New trail run to raise funds for Mhlengi Gwala

The theme will be based on the days when King Shaka sent his warriors out to battle and created many trails in the area.

TRAIL Runners and walkers can look forward to an exciting new trail run from the Sibaya Casino on Saturday, 26 August. The Sibaya King Shaka Trail Run will feature a 10km and 5km route, starting and finishing at the casino.

Riverside Trail and the Mountain Backpackers Group will be supporting the run along with a local events company, Ward Events, to make this event a memorable occasion.

The theme will be based on the days when King Shaka sent his warriors out to battle and created many trails in the area. Runners and walkers may be confronted by Zulu warriors while participating.

“This is an event not to be missed. Entries are now open on www.roag.co.za. The first 500 pre entries will receive a fold up drinking cup that is fast becoming compulsory at running events,” organiser Buzz Bolton said.

This event will also raise funds for Mhlengi Gwala, who was savagely attacked during a chain saw attack earlier this year.

“I was blown away when Shandile (Shange), my training partner told me there was a trail run being organised for me. I didn’t believe it as first but I was blown away by the generosity of the people involved. I’d also like to thank all those who have raised so much for me and helped me out since the attack. It’s been overwhelming to be surrounded by such love,” Gwala said.
