10 years for M4 cyclists’ killer

Omesh Ramnarain,33, was found guilty of two counts of culpable homicide.

THE driver responsible for the crash which killed two cyclists on the M4 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Omesh Ramnarain,33, was found guilty on two counts of culpable homicide for the crash which led to the deaths of the cyclists on the M4 Ruth First Highway.

Glenwood’s Jared Dwyer and Glen Anil’s Richard da Silva were part of a group of around 30 cyclists from the Kings Park Cycling Club when Ramnarain crashed into them on 7 February 2016.

Ramnian was also found guilty of reckless and negligent driving and his driver’s licence revoked.

Magistrate Anand Maharaj sentenced Ramnarain to 5 years each for killing Dwyer and da Silva. The two five year sentences will run consecutively.
