Two critical after head-on collision on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

The road had to be closed to allow medical and rescue personnel to attend to the scene.

TWO people are critical after a head-on collision on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Monday night. Paramedics from Crisis Medical and Netcare 911 responded to the scene just after 10.30pm.

According to Shawn Herbst, of Netcare 911, three people were injured altogether.

“Three people were injured in the collision with two of the patients requiring advanced life intervention due to the nature of their injuries. The Durban North SAPS were on scene and will be investigating the circumstances that led to the collision,” he explained.

Crisis Medical’s spokesman, Kyle van Reenen, said the driver of one of the vehicles was found severely entrapped.

“The eThekwini Fire Department had to cut him free from the wreckage using the jaws of life,” he said.

The accidents comes two days after a fatal accident on the M4 involving two vehicles.
