Suspects rob Sunningdale home

The suspects are still at large following the early morning robbery.

FOUR suspects stormed a Sunningdale home on Round The Green in the early hours of Tuesday morning stealing various items. The suspects, who used the N2 as an entry and escape route, held up the homeowner before fleeing with several goods. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident occurred just after 3am.

“The suspects cut the burglar guards, using what appears to be a bolt cutter, on one of the windows and gained access to the premises.  The homeowner who had set her alarm before going to bed heard a noise in her lounge and went to investigate. As she walked out of her bedroom with her son and daughter at her side, she saw the suspects who threatened her.

“They told them to go back to their rooms and threatened to shoot her however, no weapons were produced. The suspects stole several items including jewellery, an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones and a TV and then jumped over a wall on the property to escape using the N2 highway. We believe there was an awaiting getaway vehicle on the freeway, however, our investigations are ongoing,” Capt Raymond Deokaran said.

He confirmed a case of armed robbery had been opened.

This is the first incident of a house robbery with homes bordering the N2 freeway since the arrest of three men linked to similar robberies last month.
