Fake Transnet vacancy scam resurfaces

The scammers are now using the names of Transnet Executives in their false advertisements.

TRANSNET Freight Rail has warned the public about job scams doing rounds. Transnet says a group of criminals is using Transnet Executives’ identity to scam unsuspecting job seekers.

In a statement Transnet said, “This is a very unfortunate situation. The company appeals to all job seekers to exercise extra caution when applying for jobs; particularly in instances where individuals are required to pay money in exchange for job placements.”

The company added that in some instances individuals have travelled long distances to attend these fake job interviews.

“People travel great distances only to be greeted with disappointment of discovering the whole thing is a scam. Transnet Freight Rail has an online application process with a link provided for each advertisement. Adverts are also placed in newspapers where applicants can register their profile and then apply for positions available online. Transnet Freight Rail does not advertise jobs on social media and neither does it receive applications via post or fax,” added the company.

Anyone who may be aware of such scams is urged to call Transnet’s toll free fraud hotline number 0800 003 056.
