Furballs fun at Mad Catter event

The Mad Catter's Tea Party takes place at Hingham Nursery Tea Garden.

THE heart of an animal rescuer relies on a number of factors, which include passion, time, energy and dedication. Brought together by a love of animals, and saving the lives of hundreds of animals each year, Farrah Khan Maharajh puts her love of animals into action. It’s true that no one person can save them all, but for Farrah, if you can make a difference in the life of just one animal, your contribution is invaluable.

The Redhill resident is the founder of Feeding the Furballs, a non-profit organisation (NPO) and PBO (public benefit organisation) which provides rescue animals and rescue organisations with food and supplies. It is the first of its kind in KZN and is often referred to as the animal version of Gift of the Givers SA.

Now, Maharajh plans on holding a Mad Catter’s Tea Party on Sunday, 20 May at Hingham Nursery Tea Garden in aid of the various animals the furballs rescue.

“This is a first for us as we’ve never held a tea party. The event is themed and people are encouraged to dress up. I know a few people have messaged me excitedly saying they are looking forward to the event. There is going to be auctions and games on the day and a chance for people to meet a foster dog, Lucy, who was rescued on the M4 freeway. The event caters for 30 people so tickets are limited and it’s also a completely vegan menu,” she enthused.

Maharajh added the event was also an opportunity to get people to learn more about what the furballs do.

The event will be held at 15 Clematis Grove in Glenhills from 2pm to 4pm. Tickets are R130 per person which includes a goodie bag, tea, coffee and snacks. For more information visit the Feeding the Furballs Facebook page.
