uMhlanga rock the competition-Juniors outshine the rest

Several of the club's juniors and nippers excelled at the competition in Port Elizabeth which saw three of the club members win a number of accolades

IT was an SA Lifesaving Championships to savour for members of Umhlanga Rocks (Rox) Surf Lifesaving Club. Several of the club’s juniors and nippers excelled at the competition in Port Elizabeth which saw three of the club members win a number of accolades.

Mitchel Garreau won the U11 Nipper of the Championship category.

“I won the Victor Ludorum in the U9 category last year so it was going to be really difficult moving up an age group but I’m super pleased with my performances. managed ,” he said.

Another standout at the event was Connor Botha who won the U17 Victor Ludorum award.

“I’ve won the award at an U15 level but this meant more to me as it was my first year in the age category. I recently returned from New Zealand where I represented South Africa and that was a huge learning curve for me. I’m looking forward to the inter-provincials which are coming up in a few weeks time,” he said.

On the junior girls side, Paige Horn, won the U15 Vixtrix Ludorum at the nationals.

“I won the award at U14 level and my goal was to win it this year. I wanted to do a lot better placing wise than last year. I’m was really happy with my performances and the club’s performance I think overall, the club had an amazing competition and we finished in second just behind Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club.
