Hit-and-run victim still in serious condition

The 49-year-old and father of two remains in a serious condition at Addington Hospital.

A DURBAN North resident who was knocked down in a hit-and-run on Tuesday evening has regained consciousness but remains in a serious condition. Vusi Msibi was struck by the driver of a white City Golf on Blackburn Road, who failed to stop following the accident at about 6pm.

Msibi, sustained a fractured skull in the incident and was later transported through to Addington Hospital by Crisis Medical.

The 49-year-old and father of two works as a gardener for local resident, Trish Visagie, who has been trying to track down any information about the incident.

“He has regained consciousness but he is not communicating. The left side of his body is apparently not responding well. He was due to take on his 19th Comrades Marathon this year. He was training on the night the accident occurred. Cyclists and runners really take their lives into their hands each time they train,” she said.

This is the second time Msibi has been the victim of a hit-and-run.

“A few years ago he was struck by a driver who fled the scene and that accident left his face slightly disfigured. Since the accident I have been in contact with security companies in the vicinity of Blackburn Road but there has been no CCTV footage of the accident. Someone from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) has also been in touch,” Visagie explained.

Visagie added she was looking for any information as to what happened on the night.

“This is not a witch hunt, we would just like to find out the circumstances and what led to the accident,” she added.

If you have witnessed the accident or have more information, email Visagie on trishv77@gmail.com.
