Suspects armed with guns storm uMhlanga home

In two of the three armed robberies in the last 24 hours, the suspects have used the homeowners' vehicles to escape.

THERE has been yet another armed robbery in the north Durban area, bringing the number to three in the last 24 hours. On Friday, a gang armed with assault rifles used the M4 Ruth First Highway to gain access to the property in uMhlanga.

The four suspects armed with firearms, confined the homeowners to a bedroom, before ransacking the home on Ridge Road.

“The men stole various items including four flat screen TVs and cell phones, before making off in the family’s Range Rover vehicle,” said Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security.

The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the Ohlanga area by the Durban North SAPS.

This was the third armed robbery within 24 hours. On Thursday evening, armed men robbed an Effingham family.

“The homeowner was turning into his driveway when he was surrounded by four suspects armed with a firearm. The men took him inside the house and then put the family into one of the bedrooms. The suspects took jewellery, a firearm, cash, TV’s, cell phones and various other items before fleeing the scene with the homeowner’s BMW,” he said.

In the third incident on Thursday afternoon, a Glenashley homeowner was assaulted by the armed suspects.
