Armed men assault homeowner in Glenashley home invasion

The suspects fired a shot at the property when they were fleeing the scene of the crime.

FIVE suspects, three of whom were armed with handguns stormed a home on The Promenade in Glenashley on Wednesday afternoon. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the suspects assaulted the homeowner who was at home at the time.

“The suspects struck the homeowner across the face, robbing her of a cell phone. The men then ransacked the home stealing various other items. The victim’s husband and brother in law arrived at the premises confronting the fleeing suspects, who fired a shot. Remarkably there were no injuries sustained,” he said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS confirmed a case of house robbery has been opened.

“The suspects, who were in a silver Mercedes Benz are still at large and police and security personnel are looking for the suspects,” he said.

The armed robbery comes days after five men stormed a home on Churchill Avenue in La Lucia. In that incident, five suspects armed with a firearm, forced their way on to the property. The homeowner who was at home at the time, was confined to a room and tied up along with his staff member.

One of the robbers stood guard while his accomplices ransacked the home, stealing flat screen televisions, laptops and jewellery, before making off in the homeowner’s vehicle, a silver Grey Nissan Duke.
