Kunene nets action for KZN

Ayanda Kunene was part of the KZN ladies B team that participated in the tournament held at the Action Sports Bloemfontein Arena.

DURBAN North resident Ayanda Kunene recently represented KwaZulu-Natal at the inter-provincial indoor action netball tournament held in Bloemfontein. Kunene was part of the KZN ladies B team that participated in the tournament held at the Action Sports Bloemfontein Arena.

Despite the KZN team losing in the bronze final, Kunene said she was proud of her teammates. As a province the KZN U21s (both mens and ladies) came home with one silver and three bronze medals.

“We lost the bronze final by a narrow three points but I’m extremely proud of the team. It was such a rewarding experience being part of the team and being able to contribute to their efforts. I am so proud of KZN for working together to bring home the four medals,” she said.

Kunene who has represented the province since the age of 14 said it was an honour playing for KZN.

“I’ve always loved the sport and something I’m passionate about. It’s an honour representing KZN and I would love to make the national squad which is a goal I’m working towards,” the former Danville Park Girl’s High School learner said.

She also praised a local company, S&A Marketing, who sponsored her trip to Bloemfontein. Unlike some sporting bodies, netball players are not sponsored, therefore the financial burden sits with each of the individual players to raise the funds for the trip.

“I’d like to thank who allowed me to represent my province by sponsoring a portion of the cost for my trip. I am truly grateful.”
