GREENWOOD Park police have urged local businesses to tighten their security. This as the police service say there has been a spate of business robberies recorded in the past few months.
Greenwood Park police spokesperson Sgt Vincent Mthembu said: “Some of the businesses don’t have enough resources to provide the necessary protection on its premises. We as SAPS used to patrol and we picked up that some of the security guards are standing on the road because even they don’t have access to the premises. Some of the security guards are not even trained properly,” said Mthembu.
Last week, a Briadene business was targeted by armed suspects who fled with a company vehicle.

In February two business premises on Chris Hani Road were rocked by a robbery.

Mthembu has advised businesses to increase their security.
“They should employ more qualified and registered security personnel to manage access control and patrol the premises. The businesses must have security fencing and all guards should have a panic button. The entire business building should have sensors installed, even in the roof because in some cases, criminals gain entry through the roof,” said Mthembu.
He concluded by adding that business owners could get together and form business watches on their streets.
“A business watch is also recommended in every street. If a suspicious person is spotted anywhere near the business don’t hesitate to contact the SAPS,” concluded Mthembu.
