NERSA slams ‘false’ message on Eskom account

NERSA has assured all stakeholders and the public that Eskom’s RCA applications will be considered following due regulatory process.

THE National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) says information in a message being circulated regarding the public comment on Eskom’s Regulatory Clearing Account (RCA) are false.

The message shared on social media platforms alleges that the public has been given two weeks to comment on the Eskom applications. However in a statemnt NERSA said this is false, as the time frame is in fact six weeks.

“NERSA would like to categorically state that stakeholders and the public were given two months to provide written comments on Eskom’s RCA applications. The invitation for written comments was published on 23 January 2018 and the closing date for the submission of comments was 23 March 2018, which constitutes two months,” said Nersa in a statement.

The regulator added that public hearings will be held across the country, to ensure that those who can’t make written submissions are given a chance to voice out their comments.

“Public hearings will be conducted in all nine provinces between 16 April and 11 May 2018. This will provide stakeholders and the public with the opportunity to make oral presentations on the applications. NERSA would like to assure all stakeholders and the public that Eskom’s RCA applications will be considered following due regulatory process. NERSA remains committed to conducting a public participation process as part of its decision-making process,” the regulator said.
