Suspects target Briardene business in robbery

A case of business robbery has been opened at Greenwood Park SAPS.

ARMED robbers targeted a business in Briardene at the weekend and fled with a company vehicle. According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios, the robbers also held up a security guard at the business premises.

“The security guard was patrolling the site when he spotted  an armed suspect on the property who ambushed him and held him up. He immediately activated his remote panic button before the suspect forced him to walk to the security guard room where he pushed him to the ground and searched him. One of the suspects took the security guard’s, cellphone and remote panic button,” Mathios said.

Mathios said the suspect then asked him how many security guards were on the property and questioned him regarding the operation of the CCTV cameras on site.

“While the suspect was questioning the security guard the rest of the gang was busy stealing a company vehicle that was parked on site. The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, cutting the chain on the main gate at the entrance in order to drive it out. The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device and was later recovered in KwaMashu with its dashboard and seats ripped out,” Mathios said.
