City warns rates rebate beneficiaries

The renewal forms are not for sale and there is no charge to submit the form.

THE City has warned rates rebate beneficiaries to be careful of scammers charging them to fill in rates rebate forms.

The municipality has called on beneficiaries to submit their rebate renewal letters before the end of April. The City’s head of revenue management, Peet du Plessis, said previously there were cases where unknown suspects scammed beneficiaries, especially senior citizens.

“Rebates are provided to senior citizens, the medically boarded, people with disabilities and child-headed households. Customers are cautioned to exercise vigilance during this period, as many often fall prey to criminals. There were previous cases where anonymous people were scamming, especially senior citizens for cash to assist in filling forms,” said du Plessis

No municipal official will visit their homes to collect or deliver forms and there is no charge involved in the submission and completion process,” du Plessis said

He urged beneficiaries who do not receive renewal letters to contact the municipality.

“All beneficiaries who do not receive renewal letters by 15 March 2018, should visit the eThekwini Municipality offices with their Identity Documents, ” he said.
