VIDEO: Avoca learners force school shut down

One of the boys from the school was arrested by police and will be charged with malicious damage to property.

TEACHING and learning came to a standstill today at Avoca Secondary School after learners embarked on a protest.  The high school learners blocked Bhamo Avenue burning tyres and forcing traffic to move at a snail’s pace.

The female learners told the Northglen News that the school applied ‘different rules to different learners’.  One of the learners said: “We want to be able to wear braids. The boys want to have fade hair cuts. This school does not even have ties for us to wear.”
