Pugs to take over Durban promenade

The event is aimed at creating awareness on, and raising funds for Pug Rescue South Africa.

GET ready for a cuteness overload as hundreds of pugs are set to descend on the Durban beachfront for the annual Durban Pug Walk. The event is set for Sunday, 11 March on the Durban Promenade (outside Wahooz) for 9am.

The event is aimed at creating awareness on, and raising funds for Pug Rescue South Africa.

The organisation, founded by Cheryl and Malcolm Gaw, strives to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, neglected and surrendered pugs.

“As volunteers we try and organise as many fundraisers in Durban as possible so that we can continue to rescue and rehome these loveable dogs. This year we’ve decided to hold two pug walks, one this Sunday and the next in August. We just want to do more for the organisation from a KZN perspective,” said the Durban North resident and volunteer, Storm Veronie.

Veronie said any donation would be welcome.

“Last year we managed to raise R4 500 and this year we hope to beat that mark. This event is really about raising awareness on the good work Pug Rescue does. We welcome any donation, be it food or blankets or toys,” she said.
