Horrific N2 crash brings traffic to a standstill

The Jaws of Life were needed to cut two men from the crumpled remains of their vehicle.

THEE people have been seriously injured after two trucks collided on the N2 just before Queen Nandi Drive, northbound. Various emergency personnel have converged on the scene of the accident that is causing a severe traffic backlog on the busy freeway. Crisis Medical paramedics said jaws of life were needed to cut two men free from the truck they were traveling in.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the men were stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital.

“Emergency services arrived on scene shortly after 11:20am to find two heavy duty vehicles had collided and overturned, coming to a rest on the left hand side embankment of the national highway.

Two men from one of the vehicles sustained serious injuries and were found entrapped in the twisted remains of their vehicle. Advanced life support paramedics worked fevently to stabilize the men, whilst rescue technicians cut them free using specialized hydraulic equipment,”  said van Reenen

At this stage the cause of the collision is speculative and will form subject of a South African Police Services investigation.
