RESIDENTS living on Prospect Hall Road have implored the Ethekwini Traffic Authority (ETA) to look at implementing additional traffic calming measures to curb the speeding on the busy residential road.
Last week, several residents from Oxford Drive and Prospect Hall Road as well as representatives from Milldene Park Retirement Village met with Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley to discuss their concerns over the constant flouting of speed limits on the residential road.
The meeting, which was spearheaded by Genevieve Moore, was in an effort for residents to find out what could be done to curb speeding.
“I’ve been horrified by the speeds some of the drivers do on this road. The drivers speeding along this route speed up or down Oxford Drive to avoid the speed humps on Soofie Saheb Drive and then the section between Windsor Drive and the retirement home is an absolute nightmare. We would like the City to consider speed calming measures to curb speeding,” she said.

Another resident, Lauren Antonizzi, said that driving or walking on the road was dangerous.
“I walk my dogs quite often in the afternoon and the speed that buses as well as cars come along is absolutely scary. There have been so many accidents at the intersection of Uitsig and Prospect Hall roads despite speed humps near the school,” she said.
Ward councillor, Shaun Ryley said he had already submitted, on three separate occasions, requests for speed calming on the road.
“I have a few priority roads that I’ve asked for speed humps on including Mackeurtan Avenue, Lonsdale Avenue, and Prospect Hall Road. I’ve also asked for traffic lights to be installed to at Old Mill Way and Prospect Hall Road. I’ve been turned down on different occasions but following the meeting I will be submitting another request to the ETA. There were some positive suggestions which I will take forward to the ETA for their investigation and feedback,” he said.
