KWAZULU-Natal Police have confirmed the charred remains found in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands are in fact those of Durban North resident, Siam Lee. Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, provincial spokesperson, confirmed that the remains found in the KZN Midlands more than a month ago was that of Lee.
Sue Foster, a close friend of Lee’s mother, Carmen Nan, said the local resident will be laid to rest later this week.
“We are holding a private cremation with close family and friends. Carmen has gone through two months of emotional trauma which has been debilitating. This allows us some sort of closure and a chance for the family to heal,” she said.

Lee was reported missing in January and was allegedly kidnapped outside a Margaret Maytom Avenue home. Days later, her charred remains were discovered by a farmer in a sugarcane field in New Hanover.
The man accused of her murder, is facing 16 charges including kidnapping, rape and assault with intent to do bodily harm. The Assagay resident who is currently awaiting his bail hearing at the Durban Magistrate’s Court next week alleged last month he had been subjected to harassment and had been tortured and assaulted by Durban North police.
Residents of Clarendon Road Neighbourhood Watch earlier this month lit candles and dropped off bouquets of flowers outside the Margaret Maytom Avenue home.
