SUNNINGDALE snake rescuer, Jason Arnold rescued a large 2.5 metre black mamba from a home on Gannet Crescent in Dawncrest – Verulam on Friday afternoon.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), they received a call from the homeowner requesting assistance to remove a snake from the property.
“Officers proceeded to the residence and upon arrival were informed that the snake was large and black in colour. They were joined in the search by Durban North snake catcher Jason Arnold from Universal Reptiles who managed to locate the highly venomous snake in an outside sink. Jason managed to safely capture the reptile and removed it from the property. The serpent will be released in its natural environment away from the residential area,” RUSA said on Facebook.
Arnold is no stranger to rescuing venomous snakes, in February last year he rescued a black mamba from a Parlock woman’s bed. What is more he captured the rescue of the snake on video.
Then at the end of last year, he discovered 2.2 metre black mamba under an Avoca family’s couch.
The rescue comes a week after a black mamba was found on a beach on the KZN south coast. Though unusual to see mambas on a beach, snake experts said it was possible that due to the extremely hot weather, the snake was cooling down on the shore or having a drink of salty water and may have been tired or caught up in the waves.
The rescue was also captured on video.
