City to close Athlone Bridge temporarily

The date of the closure is subject to changes as the City cannot survey during bad weather conditions (rain or strong winds).

THE City will close Athlone Bridge on Sunday, 18 February, in order to determine the stability of the bridge. The eThekwini survey department intends on undertaking a seasonal survey project that involves the temporary closure of Kenneth Kaunda Road (Athlone Bridge).

The traffic vibration interferes with the delicate survey instruments therefore, traffic will be diverted with the assistance of Metro Police.

The temporary full road closure will be implemented on Sunday, 18 February from 7am to 10am.

eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said the date is subject to changes as they cannot survey during bad weather conditions (rain or strong winds).
