Gateway gaming store robbed by armed men

The suspects were armed with a handgun.

DURBAN North SAPS are investigating the robbery of a gaming store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping on Tuesday evening by two armed men. According to the Durban North SAPS, two men entered the store just before 7pm. A large amount of money was taken in the robbery.

“The suspects, armed with a handgun, walked into the gaming store and held up the staff and ordered them to open the safe. The suspects then took R16 000. They also stole CCTV footage tapes from the store before fleeing on foot. No one was seriously injured and the suspects are still at large,” said police spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran.

In a statement, Gateway confirmed the incident had taken place.

“Gateway Theatre of Shopping confirms that a robbery took place at a retailer within the centre at approximately 6.55pm. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated by the SAPS. No injuries were sustained.”

This is the first incident at the popular mall since December when a teenager managed to evade an armed mugger in the women’s toilet. The is the first robbery at the centre since October when armed suspects stormed a popular clothing store.
