AN elderly couple were assaulted by armed men in an attempted home invasion on Lynton Place on Tuesday afternoon. The suspects, who were disturbed by the neighbours, fled the scene empty handed.
According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the men derailed the driveway gate before getting into the property at about 2pm.
“The elderly couple were at home having lunch at the dining table when they were confronted by the armed men. The husband was pushed to the ground by the suspects who demanded cash. The homeowners told the suspects they didn’t have anything and the suspects were disturbed by the neighbours. The armed men then fled the scene empty handed,” he said.

ER24 who were on scene treated one of the residents, a woman, believed to be 80 years old, who sustained moderate injuries after being roughed up by the suspects.
“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the woman receiving help from her neighbours. She was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” said Annine Siddall, ER24 spokesperson.
The incident was followed by a house break-in on Ellis Park Drive within 20 minutes of the attempted robbery. The suspects made off with more than R30 000 worth of items, confirmed Greenwood Park police.
