Happy ending as lost locket is reunited with owner

The emotional owner thanked the Glen Anil resident who found the locket in December last year.

THERE were tears of joy last week as Glen Anil resident, Piet Spiller, handed over a locket to its rightful owner, Janine White. The local resident had put out an appeal in Northglen News last week after finding the locket in December at the Hypermarket at the Sea.

“I had received the locket as a gift in September for my birthday and I was too afraid to wear it because I thought I would lose it. My son got married in December in Malawi and I decided to put in some sentimental photos into the locket to show my son on his special day. I had a photo of my dad, who is still alive, but couldn’t make it and a photo of my in-laws who are late.  I wore it around my neck so it would be close to my heart and it just so happened I visited the supermarket a few weeks before the wedding.

“I was actually on my way to a jeweler friend to have a look at the locket on the day I lost it because I was having trouble opening it. It was only after I got there and got out of the car, I realised I had lost it. I knew it had to be at the Hypermarket. So I went back there and spoke to the manager, who said no one had handed it in at that stage,” she said.

White said she thought her hopes were dashed as time went on until she saw the article.

“I shouted to my husband in absolute joy. I immediately phoned the number and was in tears speaking to Mr Spiller. I’m so glad he didn’t contact the paper in December when he found it because I would have missed it. He is such a wonderful man and this means so much to me and my family. I’m overjoyed that I have been reunited with something I thought was lost forever,” she said.

The Glen Anil resident was all smiles as he explained his happiness at the outcome.

“All I wanted was to find the owner of the locket and I’m so glad to be part of such a happy ending. The locket clearly had sentimental value and listening to the story of its importance makes it even more special,” he said.
