GLEN Anil residents have expressed their concern over a burst pipe spewing sewage into one of the tributaries of the uMngeni River for weeks.
Last week Northglen News met with ward 110 councillor, Pete Graham, and a health inspector at the source of the sewage site.
Graham said the situation has already had disastrous impacts for businesses along Old North Coast Road due to the foul ordour emanating from the stream.
“I’ve had several complaints from businesses where the stream runs alongside it. Both the health inspector and I have walked down about 500 metres or so and found the sewage pooling on the top of the water making a toxic film just lying there. This not only adversely affects the water but also the birdlife and fish life in the stream. I’m deeply concerned about this as it is absolutely shocking that it has not been rectified yet,” he said.
When journalists visited the site on Sunday, sewage was still flowing out of the pipe.
