Teenager, friends robbed in Umhlanga Ridge

Durban North SAPS are still looking for the suspect who is yet to be apprehended.

A TEENAGER and his friends were allegedly robbed of their valuables while walking along Palm Boulevard on Friday evening at about 7pm. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, one of the suspects, who was 15-years-old was walking with his friends when they were accosted by an armed suspect.

“He pulled out a gun and robbed the victim and his friends of their cell phones and wallets. The suspect then fled on foot while the victims sought help from local authorities,” he explained.

Deokaran warned parents to urge their children to stay in well-lit areas and to stick to designated drop-off and collection points.

“This isn’t the first incident to occur with the same modus operandi in and around the area. In the past we’ve had cases where the suspects target youngsters possibly viewing them as soft targets. I urge parents to remind their kids not to wander to isolated areas or hang around parks late at night,” he said.

The incident came hours after a man was forced to withdraw R2 400 from an ATM on North Coast Road by two suspects.
