Armed gang rob Springfield watch shop

Four suspects armed with handguns robbed the store on Friday.

A GANG of four men robbed a Springfield Park watch shop shortly after lunchtime on Friday. The robbery came hours after a jewellery store was robbed, allegedly by the same gang, in Hillcrest Corner in the upper Highway area.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, confirmed a case of business robbery was opened at Sydenham Police Station.

“Four suspects entered the business premises and at gunpoint took watches and fled the scene. No arrest made and the matter is under investigation,” he said.

Durban PI Brad Nathanson said the same car was used in both armed robberies.

“We have reason to believe the same gang was involved in the Highway robbery because the same type of vehicle was used, a Toyota Corrola with NE number plates. When we viewed the CCTV footage, I could see the suspects had simply taped over the existing number plate with fake ones.

“I can confirm the gang is not the same one involved in a spate of jewellery and watch store robberies across KZN last year. The gang is pretty young and relative inexperienced,” he said.
