Ryde Place residents warns motorists of road collapse

The burst pipe damaged a resident's verge and the heavy rains that followed caused a massive depression on the busy road.

A RYDE Place resident has warned motorists to be careful when driving on Ryde Place especially at night due a partial road collapse. Ian Nicholson, said the depression began after a water pipe burst outside his home in December. The burst pipe damaged Nicholson’s verge and the heavy rains that followed caused a massive depression on the busy road.

“I know lots of residents use this route so I just wanted to warn them about the danger of the hole, especially at night. My bank has partially collapsed but the road has taken the brunt of the damage. The damage to the road is just after the rise on Ryde Place. I would hope this is repaired quickly as this could cause a nasty accident,” he said.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said he anticipated the issue would get worse with more rains.

“I regularly use the road and often times you are forced into the opposite lane to avoid driving into the hole which is dangerous considering the driver at the top of the rise doesn’t see you until it’s too late. The problem now is the municipality hasn’t fixed the issue and the road could worsen with more rain. I feel the municipality needs to cordon off the sections to repair it.

“The problem is particularly bad at night, the street lighting is not good and for someone who doesn’t know the area it makes it all the more dangerous. If we have heavy rains again I anticipate the problem will get worse,” he said.
