NSRI urges paddlers to stencil names on crafts

NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said having a name and number to call, helps trace the person to see if they are in need of assistance.

THE National Sea Rescue Institute has appealed to paddlers and sail boarders to stencil a name and contact number on their craft. The NSRI said every time an unmanned craft washes up on the beaches they launch a search.

In a statement on Facebook, the NSRI said: “If you abandon your craft at sea please alert the NSRI. When we find an unmanned craft, board or kite, we assume the worst and launch a search. Having a name and number to call, helps us try to trace the person to see if they are in need of assistance.”

NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon also urged paddlers to download the free app, SafeTrx.

“Launching this free app the National Sea Rescue Institute is responding to a need in the paddling and small craft community. The RSA SafeTrx App monitors a boat’s journey and alerts emergency contacts, who are nominated by the user (family and friends), should they fail to return to shore on time,” he said.
