LEARNERS from Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School and Crawford College La Lucia have made the North proud with some exceptional results after the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) results were released earlier today.
Nationally, the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) reported a 98.76 per cent matric pass rate for 2017 with 88 per cent of those who passed qualifying to start a Bachelor’s Degree.
With Our Lady of Fatima, not only did the school achieve 100 per cent Bachelor Gegree passes for the IEB exams, but the Dux of the school, Rachel Springate achieved seven As which included a 92 per cent for Geography (which placed her in the top one per cent in the country).

“We are delighted with the 100 per cent Bachelor Degree passes obtained by the largest class of matrics ever entered by the school. 99 per cent of the grade achieved above a 60 per cent aggregate. The excellent work ethic of the girls, combined with the dedication and professionalism of teachers – who have balanced teaching critical 21st C skills with a rigorous syllabus – has paid off.
“Congratulations to the Dux, Rachel Springate on scoring 7As which include 92 per cent for Geography (which placed her in the top 1 per cent in the country) and 95 per cent for Maths. Alex Morey who was second in the grade, achieved an 85 per cent aggregate, also scoring 95 per cent for maths,” said principal of the school, Dee Horsfall.
Cal Warwick, principal of Crawford College La Lucia was equally proud of the school’s Matric class of 2017.
“We were absolutely thrilled with the results of our 2017 matric group. The results are testimony to the commitment and hard work put in by the students, having been supported enthusiastically by both their parents and the teachers. Our matrics planned purposefully, prepared thoroughly, proceeded positively and pursued their goals persistently. They were worthy recipients of these wonderful results.

“A total of 109 students wrote and all of them passed with Bachelor’s Degree passes – a most noteworthy result. Twelve learners achieved full house A’s for seven or more subjects. Special mention must go to Agnes Gosnell – who achieved within the top five per cent of learners in six or more subjects and finished with 11 distinctions. Another special mention must go to Bobby Arek-Bawa and Maseeha Bhorat – who achieved within the top five per cent of learners in five subjects and scored 80 per cent or more for life orientation,” she said.
