eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa,  said: “While there is an enforcement team that deals with the removal of illegal billboards on a daily basis, this is the first time a number of illegal billboards have been erected in the City on such a large scale.

“To erect billboards within the municipal jurisdiction processes have to be followed as advertising is regulated and certain bylaws are applicable. Also, plans have to be approved before a billboard can be erected. The City welcomes the court order granting authority to remove these illegal billboards which will be done soon,” added Mthethwa.
