Holidaymakers robbed on eMdloti Beach

A case has been opened by the Johannesburg couple who were robbed at knife-point.

A COUPLE on holiday from Johannesburg were robbed at knife-point on eMdloti Beach on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred on lower North Beach Road on the beach confirmed Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS. A case of common robbery had been opened by the couple.

Gareth Nezar who is part of the CPF in eMdloti said an extensive search for the suspect proved fruitless following the incident.

“The couple were taking a leisurely stroll when they were approached by a man who pretended to ask for a light. The suspect was carrying a fishing rod and a backpack and had a cap on.

“He then pulled out a knife and demanded the couple’s valuables. He stole their watches, jewellery and their wallets before fleeing on foot. An extensive search was performed of the beaches and surrounding bushes but the suspect managed to escape,” he said.
