1 dead after vehicle overturns on M4

A 58-year-old man, who was entrapped in the wreckage of one of the vehicles sustained fatal injuries.

ONE person has died after a collision involving two vehicles on the M4 Ruth First Highway just after lunchtime on Wednesday. According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, the accident occurred on the northbound carriageway just after the M41 exit.

“A light motor vehicle collided with the rear of a delivery vehicle causing it to overturn. The driver of the delivery vehicle, a 58-year-old man, was entrapped in the wreckage and sustained fatal injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do to assist and he was declared deceased on arrival.

“Two other occupants of the delivery vehicle sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were treated and stabilised on scene before being transported to a hospital.  The driver of the light motor vehicle involved, suffered no injuries and refused treatment.

He added the cause of the collision and the facts surrounding were unclear.

The highway had to be closed while rescue personnel worked to clear the scene.
