Two injured in violent altercation in uMhlanga

One man was stabbed multiple times while the other had been beaten with a rock.

DURBAN North SAPS have opened a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) after two men were injured in a violent altercation in uMhlanga on Thursday night. The incident occurred on Lighthouse Road confirmed police.

Shawn Herbst, Netcare 911 media liaison officer said Netcare 911 paramedics who responded to the scene treated one man who had been stabbed multiple times and another who had been hit with a rock.

“At approximately 9.58pm on Thursday evening we responded to calls of a stabbing on Lighthouse Road. Reports from the scene allege the men had been socialising when an altercation broke out between the two resulting in one person being stabbed multiple times to the head chest and upper extremities with what is believed to have been a broken beer bottle. The man had lost a large volume of blood and required immediate intervention.

“The second person had subsequently been beaten with a rock resulting in the man sustaining head injuries. Both patients were treated and transported to hospital for further assessment and care,” he said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS confirmed a case of assault GBH was opened following the incident.
