Driver stabbed while changing tyre on M4

The victim sustained several lacerations to his head and hands in the assault.

A MAN has been arrested after he stabbed a motorist several times on the M4 near Broadway on Thursday night. According to Crisis Medical, the incident occurred at about 9pm.

“The motorist had stopped on the side of the road and was attempting to change a tyre when he was approached by an unknown suspect, armed with a broken bottle. The suspect began assaulting the victim who sustained lacerations to his head and hands, before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction. Paramedics stabilised the victim on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

“The suspect was arrested by Marshall Security and Durban North SAPS officers. He was positively identified by the victim as his attacker. The suspect was found in possession of the broken bottle as well as various blood stained clothing items,” he said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS commended the police officers and security personnel involved in the arrest of the suspect.

“A case of attempted murder has been opened following the incident,” he said.

The attack was one of two incidents last night. Netcare 911 paramedics also responded to a stabbing and assault on Lighthouse Road in uMhlanga on Thursday night.
