7 undocumented construction workers detained in uMhlanga Ridge

The men are currently being detained at the Phoenix Police Station.

SEVEN men who are believed to be undocumented migrants were arrested on a construction site in uMhlanga Ridge on Wednesday morning. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the operation was in conjunction with the Department of Home Affairs.

“The department had gathered information that there were several undocumented migrants employed at the construction site in uMhlanga Ridge. All of them had entered the country illegally. Seven men from Malawi, Nigeria and Zimbabwe were detained and taken to the Phoenix Police Station where they will be processed,” he said.

Deokaran added police would be intensifying cross departmental operations including roadblocks and visible police checkpoints during the December holidays.
