Man’s body discovered near uMhlanga lagoon

Police say there were no identifying documents on the man.

DURBAN North SAPS have opened an inquest docket after the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found hanging from a tree. Netcare 911 paramedics found the man’s lifeless body with a rope around his neck on one of the dunes close to the uMhlanga Lagoon Beach.

According to a police source, the man had no identifying marks on his body.

“The paramedics found him on his knees. It is unclear how long he had been lying there before his body was discovered. A dog-walker spotted the man’s body and alerted lifesavers at Bronze Beach who called the paramedics and the SAPS. He had no identifying documents and we’ve opened an inquest docket into his death. His body will be taken to the Phoenix mortuary while we seek the next of kin,” the source said.

Last month, the body of a 13-year-old boy was found floating in the Ohlanga River‚ 600 metres upstream from the M4 Ruth First highway bridge‚ with multiple stab wounds to the back. Police also discovered the boy’s throat had been slit.
