Wet conditions expected across KZN
More rain is expected across parts of KZN and the Midlands, warns weather service.
THE South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a weather warning for parts of KwaZulu-Natal. While flooding and extremely heavy rains are expected in the northern reaches of the province, Durban will be affected by persistent downpours.
“On Wednesday, the heaviest rain is expected along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal where there will the added effect of the low-level onshore flow of the wind caused by the ridge of the surface high pressure system,” the service said in a statement.
As a result of this expected adverse weather, the public is made aware of the following impacts that can be experienced:
Flooding of roads and settlements.
Occasional poor road visibility.
Fast flowing streams pose danger to life.

Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, had this to say: “Residents should not panic but take precautionary measures to ensure safety during this period. These measures include staying indoors and off the roads (where possible), avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped within a vehicle by rising waters, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground. Residents living in informal settlements are also advised to secure their roof sheeting.”

According to Garrith Jamieson, of Rescue Care paramedics, they will remain on high alert during this period.
“We will be deploying our resources strategically in line with other disaster agencies. We urge residents to familiarise themselves with the SAWS warnings and to exercise caution when driving in wet weather conditions.
