Spinathon set to get guide dogs’ tails wagging

The event is open to everyone and there will be goodie bags and lucky draw prizes.

THE South African Guide Dogs Association will be hosting a spinathon fundraiser outside Virgin Active in La Lucia on Saturday, 9 December. Ane Roux, marketing manager for the association said they hoped to raise R5 000 in a hour and a half.

“The idea is to have a 90 minute spin and the entrance fee is R90. We will be starting at 9am. If people would like to get involved, there is a registration form at the reception area of the gym. All you have to do is ensure you book your bike because there is only 40 of them. We are trying to raise R5 000 on the day.

“If you don’t want to cycle to full 90 minutes, you don’t have to, it’s really about having fun on the day. The event is open to everyone and there will be goodie bags and lucky draw prizes,” she said.

Roux said all proceeds raised on the day will go towards the training of guide dog puppies.

“We train dogs for people who are visually impaired, service dogs for people who are physically disabled and Autism support dogs for Autistic children. For us this is all about interacting with the public and raising awareness on what we do as an association,” she said.
